Sexy Women Who Are Older Than You

I don’t think there’s a woman over 30 out there, no matter how good-looking she is, who doesn’t at least somewhat lament getting older. Good looks that were so effortless in our 20s seem to be sinking (literally!) with each passing year, and once we hit 35 or so and start seeing a few gray hairs and wrinkles in the mirror, it’s easy to get into the mindset that it’s all downhill from here. The new crop of hot 20-somethings is rapidly coming up behind us, pointing their annoyingly perky breasts accusingly in our direction as if to say, “Step aside, your turn is over.” I myself just turned 35 this year, and although it’s ridiculous to feel like that’s “old,” sometimes I do sense that the inevitable transition is just around the corner. After all, it seems like just yesterday that I was turning 21, and since time mysteriously appears to be accelerating, I can only assume that 50 will be here in the blink of an eye, and 65 after that. I’m just not ready for it.

Recently I was reading online about some women that I admire both for their physical beauty and their inner radiance, and I was shocked to find out how many of them are 5, 10, 20, or even 30 years older than I am. I was thrilled to learn that contrary to how I’d been allowing myself to think, 50 can be something to look forward to, not something to dread. We only turn into “old ladies” when we let ourselves fall into that pattern of thought. The women below have politely ignored the rules of getting older, and since they have inspired me to do the same, I thought I’d share what I’ve learned about aging.

Gong Li, 44

Chinese actress Gong Li has appeared in nearly 30 films, and is best known in the English-speaking world for her performance as Hatsumomo in the film adaptation of Memoirs of a Geisha. She doesn’t appear to have aged a day since she was about 25. I wonder if she’s just decided to stop growing older.

Julianne Moore, 49

I don’t know anyone who doesn’t think Julianne Moore is stunningly beautiful. In almost every film she makes, she is cast in a intelligent, sexy role, which suits her perfectly. I had no idea she was nearly 50 — it wouldn’t have surprised me if you told me that she was 38 rather than 48.

Amparo Grisales, 53

You may not have heard of this Colombian actress and model, but she has held onto the hearts of the Spanish-speaking world for several decades now, and with good reason. By the way, this picture is not from 30 years ago — it was taken last year, when she was 51. Sure, it’s an edited magazine photo, so you have every right to be suspicious of it, but if you have a look around on the Internet you can find some recent candid paparazzi shots that prove this picture isn’t too far off the mark.

Phylicia Rashad, 61

The woman we all know and love as Clair Huxtable is 61 now, and to be honest, I think she looks better now than she did when she was on The Cosby Show. Aging has really worked for her; I wonder if she’d be willing to share her secret.

Dame Helen Mirren, 64

When the now-famous bikini photos of Dame Helen vacationing on the beach surfaced earlier this year, I couldn’t believe my eyes. She credits her firm abdomen to having chosen not to have children, but I don’t have any kids either, so where’s my flat stomach? Seriously though, she looks fantastic. I’d love to look like that now, and I’m nearly 30 years younger than she is.

Tina Turner, 70

No one can accuse Tina Turner of looking good due to an easy life. Anyone who was married to Ike Turner and had to come back from that nightmare would be well within her rights to look much older than her age due to all the stress and heartache. Yet Tina is still turning heads, defying her years, and showing no signs of slowing down.

Sophia Loren, 75

Now this is what 75 would look like in a perfect world. There’s something about Sophia Loren that has always radiated sensuality, and judging from recent photos, nothing has changed.

Mamie van Doren, 79

Again, it may be hard to believe, but this is a recent photo of blonde bombshell Mamie van Doren, who is slowly inching her way toward the big eight-oh. She was most famous as a contemporary of Marilyn Monroe and Jayne Mansfield, a pin-up model and sort-of-actress who dominated Hollywood half a century ago. She’s still got it, and she’s not afraid to flaunt it, either.

This is by no means an exhaustive list; as it turned out there were so many beautiful older women I could have profiled, that in the interests of finishing this article before I died of old age, I had to trim it down quite a lot and feature just a few of my personal favorites. Some other sexy women over 40:

Salma Hayek, 43
Diane Lane, 45
Brooke Shields, 44
Monica Bellucci, 45
Vanessa Williams, 46
Gina Gershon, 47
Demi Moore, 47
Jamie Lee Curtis, 51
Jennifer Tilly, 51
Michelle Pfieffer, 51
Sela Ward, 53
Kim Cattrall, 53
Isabelle Adjani, 54
Reba McEntire, 54
Meredith Viera, 56
Jane Seymour, 58
Sigourney Weaver, 60
Olivia Newton-John, 61
Susan Sarandon, 63
Candice Bergen, 63
Susan Lucci, 63
Connie Chung, 63
Diane Sawyer, 64
Stockard Channing, 65
Jacqueline Bisset, 65
Catherine Deneuve, 66
Lauren Hutton, 66
Jane Fonda, 72
Ursula Andress, 73

Even that “honorable mention” list has been severely edited. There are just too many sexy older women out there to count. And to think, here I was worried about turning 35!

Did I leave out your favorite mature woman? Who inspires you not to give up on your sex appeal as you get older?

Hope for all that getting older doesn’t mean not being attractive!

I’m sorry but I think that Mamie Van Doren picture was ridiculous. Whatever happened to aging gracefully? To me, it looks like she’s trying to hard to look 20.
